    Stantec’s thriving western region environmental services and brownfield revitalization practices based in Portland Oregon and Puget Sound Area of Washington are looking for an Environmental Scientist / Geologist to join our team. We are seeking a team member with five to 10 years of experience in the environmental field and a strong interest in environmental assessment, cleanup, and community revitalization. This team member will be primarily focused on due diligence and brownfield revitalization work but may explore opportunities within our broader Environmental Services team.

    This is an opportunity to enhance your environmental career with a team of seasoned and dedicated environmental professionals doing meaningful, impactful work. This position offers a chance to build on your existing environmental industry skills in environmental analysis, sampling, risk assessment, and cleanup; client communication; and project management. There may also be opportunities to support our team of grant writers and planners helping communities secure funding to address environmental challenges and enhance livability.

    This position entails approximately 60% office work and 40% field work. Office work will include writing (such as Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessment reports, work plans, cleanup plans) and analysis of data collected in the field to evaluate potential risks to human health and the environment. Field work will include environmental sampling (soil, groundwater, sediment, soil gas, etc.) and contractor oversight with attention to detail and a focus on safety and quality. Field work will be primarily in Oregon and Washington but may include occasional assignments in other western states and occasional overnight trips. Team members will provide training and support on safe and high-quality field work methods and practices. Solid writing, data analysis/management, and analytical skills are needed, as is the ability to communicate effectively with team members in the office and in the field.

    Your Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments including researching and writing reports.
    • Conduct Phase II Environmental Site Assessments including:
    • Work planning, scheduling, health and safety planning
    • Subcontractor coordination (drillers, utility locators, laboratories, etc.)
    • Collecting environmental (soil, groundwater, soil gas, air, etc.) samples
    • Analyzing and summary data
    • Collecting and recording field observations and field measurements
    • Managing sampling chain of custody and coordinating with laboratories
    • Field work including but not limited to:
    • Reading and following written work plans and Health and Safety Plans.
    • Environmental sampling including soil, groundwater, sediment, soil gas, and indoor air.
    • Overseeing field contractors (drillers, excavation contractors, etc.).
    • Collecting and recording field observations and field measurements.
    • Managing sampling chain of custody forms and coordinating with laboratories.
    • Overseeing environmental cleanup activities.
    • Coordination with project managers to maintain project scope, schedule, and budget.
    • Effectively manage multiple tasks at once.

    Qualifications

    Your Capabilities and Credentials

    • Self-starting, team-oriented problem solver.
    • Strong research, analysis, communication and writing skills.
    • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
    • Good driving record and valid driver’s license required.

    Education and Experience

    Between five to ten years of experience in the environmental field, which may be a combination of education and work experience. Oregon and/or Washington State geology license is a plus.

    At least half of your time will be spent in an office environment with prolonged sitting and computer work, or combination of office and field. Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather, and lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.

    The applicant may be located in the Portland, Oregon or Puget Sound areas. Our team has adopted a hybrid work model (remote with some regular office meetings with Stantec regional offices in Portland, working remotely from their home with access to Stantec’s Lynnwood, Seattle and or Bellevue. area office, as needed.

    Salary Range(s):

    $69,200 - $100,300 (CA, CO, WA locations only), plus benefits

    The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
